PARLIAMENT APPROVES BILLS PERTAINING TO INTERACTION WITH GAGAUZIA’S ADMINISTRATIVE BODIES
The Moldovan Parliament has approved, in a first reading, two bills drafted by the GPA – the Popular Assembly [regional legislature] of the southern Moldovan autonomous region of Gagauzia. The bills were unanimously approved by all the deputies who were present in the session room on Thursday.
According to the documents, the Law on normative acts is supplemented with the following syntagma: “Draft normative acts, whose subject is the status and/or powers related to the ATU [autonomous territorial unit] Gagauzia, are sent for conclusion to the Executive Committee/GPA.”
Also, amendments are made to the Rules of Procedure of the Parliament, which is supplemented by the article “Giving an opinion on draft normative acts by the Gagauzia Popular Assembly”. The new provision stipulates that “draft regulations, whose subject is the status and/or powers related to the ATU Gagauzia, are sent for conclusion to the GPA”, and the conclusion is presented within 30 working days or within another period established by the resolution of the Speaker of the Parliament.”
In the explanatory note, the need for these initiatives is explained by the fact that “at present, Gagauzia is not fully involved in the process of developing bills concerning the autonomy or related to it, as well as in the process of considering them in the Parliament.”
