MOLDOVA MAY FIRST APPLY FOR CEF FUNDING FOR INFRASTRUCTURAL PROJECTS
The Republic of Moldova may first win the right to apply for the funding of infrastructural projects from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF). The European Commission reported that it had launched a new contest on Tuesday.
The Commission is allocating over 7 billion euros for the implementation of new infrastructure projects, modernization and improvement of the trans-European transport network (TEN-T), including railroads, inland waterways, sea and river ports, as well as road infrastructure.
Projects supporting the EU-Ukraine “solidarity corridors”, created to facilitate Ukrainian and Moldovan exports and imports, are also eligible to participate in the competition. As part of this call for projects, legal entities and authorities from Ukraine and Moldova will be able to apply directly for EU funding for the first time, thanks to the signing of association agreements with these two countries earlier this year.
“This competition of projects will be the largest in terms of budget volume in the period 2021-2027. We are committing more than €7 billion to projects aimed at supporting a smart and sustainable transport system, with a focus on cross-border projects between Member States. The time we live in has once again shown us the importance of having a strong transport network of railroads, inland waterways and sea routes, which will increase the competitiveness of our industry, bring citizens closer together and firmly anchor Ukraine and Moldova in the EU,” said European Commissioner for Transport Adina Valean.
