TRADE UNIONS DEMAND FROM GOVERNMENT NOT ONE-TIME ALLOWANCE BUT RAISING OF SALARIES UP TO ECONOMY’S AVERAGE FIGURE
The Moldovan Federation of Education and Scientific Workers’ Unions expressed dissatisfaction with the Government’s intention to allocate only one-time benefits of 3-5 thousand lei to employees of the education system, and not to everyone. In their appeal to the President, Parliament Speaker and Prime Minister, the trade unions stressed that this is not enough and will not solve the problem of low salaries for teachers and technical personnel.
The unions believe that, judging by the decision to allocate assistance, workers in the field of education and scientific research are facing “a new inequality in the assessment of their efforts compared to other areas [E.g. the authorities intend to increase salaries for medicine doctors by 15%].
“In order for the teaching profession to become attractive, the average salary in the education sector must be equal to at least the average salary in the national economy. Now it is 9,950 lei a month in the education sector, or 80% of the economy’s average,” they calculated.
Employees of educational and scientific research sphere are asking to change the base rate in the draft 2024 State Budget Law. Today the rate is 1900-2000 lei, and the trade unions propose to raise it to 2600-2700 lei.
